The name Tubre got it roots from the Latin ‘TUBER’ and the Rhaeto-Romanic ‘TUER’ language and means ‘cone of debris’ or ‘hump’. The settlement of the valley took place in the pre-Romanian period. The evidence therefore is an axe of a Laplander from the Bronze Age.
The church S. Johann is a jewel in the roman art area. Their basic form is a Greek cross. Due to old voices it was built in the ninth century but destroyed by a natural catastrophe in 1130. The main part of the present church was rebuild before 1220. The roman and gothic frescos also have particular historical importance to Tubre.

S. Michael Museum (near cemetery) has been part of the parish since June 2000.
Consecrated in 1383 and 1493 the gothic corner has some good conserved frescos from the 15th century. You can visit some old frescos from the 15th century. The old gothic winged altar must be seen. The sculptured pieces of wood, which can be seen at the museum, are from the eight churches of Tubre and represents unique works of art.

The church S. Blasius was established in the year 1201. The church was pulled down in 1660 and rebuilt in the following years with beautiful paintings from Italian artists.

The castle Rotumund was built in the name of the Bishop of Chur and is one of the highest castles of Tyrol. In the middle of the 12th century ownership of the castle changed to the Noble of Rotund. The castle was sold to Heinrich Von Reichenberg but in the meantime it has been given back to the previous owner. Other owners were the Baron of Schlandersberg and the Baron of Hendl. The last castle owner was the Baron of Heydorf.

Castle Reichenberg, once property of the Bishops of Chur, changed hands in the middle of 12th century. Since 1680 both castles were uninhabited and let go into ruing.

Within the vicinity of Tubre you can visit the convent plant of Müstair (CH), the heritage of the UNESCO, the Benedictine monastery “Marienberg” whose crypt and frescos are of European significance, as well as the “Churburg” which has the biggest armoury of Europe.
